Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 16, 2026 · App version: 1.0.0

1. Overview

Komorebi is a camera app developed by Fábio Santos, focused on photographic capture, local image processing, LUT filters and metadata preservation.

Komorebi has no user accounts, does not maintain its own servers containing personal data, does not sell data, does not display ads and does not use advertising networks.

2. iPhone waitlist

By registering your email on the website waitlist, you authorize its use only to send a future invitation to Komorebi on iPhone. Registration requests only your email, stored as the title of a page in the private Notion waitlist database. It will not be used for newsletters, advertising or other messages.

Submissions are processed by the server hosted on Vercel. The integration token remains on the server and is not exposed in the form. Vercel and Notion may process technical data needed to host the site and process the request under their own policies.

Your email will be retained as long as necessary to send the invitation or until you request its deletion through the contact channels below. Registration does not require an app account and does not announce a launch date.

3. Data processed on your device

Most functionality runs locally. The app may create, read or store photos and capture files, the Komorebi album, EXIF metadata, preferences and custom LUTs.

  • Latitude, longitude and altitude can only be written to EXIF when permission is granted and the location option is enabled.
  • Preferences include grid, sound, image format, megapixels, language, original copy and TopBar settings. Widget presets and background images stay on the device; reduced copies of backgrounds, without the original photo’s metadata, are shared with the iOS extension, without iCloud sync.
  • Custom LUTs and experimental depth generation are local. The depth model is included in the app, including for eligible Live Photos.
  • Applying depth to the original retains private recovery files. Uninstalling the app removes these backups; creating a copy preserves the source photo in the library.
  • Author, copyright, rating and keywords may be written to image metadata. Pending HEIF+ jobs keep temporary source files on your device until completion or disposal.

4. Permissions

The app requests permissions only to enable its features.

  • Camera: preview and capture.
  • Media library or Photos: saving, displaying the gallery, reading metadata, rating, sharing, editing depth and deleting when requested.
  • Location while using the app: GPS in EXIF and weather and locality queries.

5. Location

The app uses location while in use to write GPS to new photos, when enabled, and to query weather and locality. It does not access location in the background. Turning this option off does not remove coordinates from previously saved photos.

6. Photos, gallery and metadata

Photos are saved in the media library, usually in the Komorebi album. The built-in gallery displays EXIF and a map and lets you rate, share and delete photos individually or in batches. On iOS, eligible photos can receive depth on the original or a copy. Later edits in another app may prevent automatic reversal. The app does not automatically upload your photos.

7. Third-party services

Usage and diagnostics sharing starts enabled and can be disabled during beta onboarding or in Settings → About and support → Share usage and diagnostics. The preference stays on the device and controls PostHog and Sentry. Turning it off blocks new transmissions and discards pending usage events; the services do not start on subsequent launches. Requests already in progress may finish and previously sent data is not deleted.

These providers have their own policies, including for technical network data. Data sent to Sentry and PostHog is retained according to each service’s policies.

  • Open-Meteo receives approximate latitude and longitude for weather data.
  • BigDataCloud receives approximate latitude and longitude for reverse geocoding.
  • Leaflet, OpenStreetMap and unpkg load scripts, styles and maps centered on the photo's coordinates.
  • The EXIF Frame generator may receive or process the image and metadata in a WebView.
  • Notion receives information voluntarily submitted through the feedback form and email addresses registered on the website waitlist.
  • When diagnostics are enabled, Sentry receives error messages, execution traces, app version and technical information about the device and affected operations. The app is not configured to send photos, RAW files, LUTs or GPS to Sentry.
  • External links are subject to the policies of the service you visit.

8. Advertising, analytics and data sales

Komorebi does not display ads, integrate advertising networks or sell data. With sharing enabled, PostHog receives usage, onboarding, permission and capture outcome events, plus a random identifier, app version and technical device information. The app does not send photos, RAW, EXIF, GPS, file or album names, or custom LUT contents to PostHog. It does not use personal profiles, session replay or automatic tap capture; IP geolocation is disabled in the integration.

9. Security and retention

Local data is subject to device protections. You control retention by deleting photos, removing LUTs, revoking permissions or uninstalling the app. Uninstalling removes private depth backups and does not necessarily remove saved photos. Reverting compatible edits requires available backups; transmitted usage and diagnostics data follows PostHog and Sentry retention policies.

10. User rights

  • Access and change preferences.
  • Delete photos and associated metadata.
  • Remove custom LUTs.
  • Revoke permissions.
  • Choose not to use external services such as maps, feedback or EXIF Frame.
  • Disable usage and diagnostics sharing; questions or requests about previously sent data can be submitted through the contact channels.

11. Children and teenagers

The app is not specifically directed at children and does not intentionally collect minors' data on its own servers. Guardians should guide use of the camera, location, gallery and sharing.

12. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when features, permissions or integrations change. The date at the top identifies the latest version.
